Plants Native to Maine

All of these species are native to Maine according to Go Botany, the plant database of the Native Plant Trust. Honey Petal Plants also offers many species native to other areas in North America as well as other parts of the world. Many plants found in other New England states and down the Appalachian spine do well in our region. I also provide information about origin and distribution (indigenous or not) in each of the plant bios for all the plants I grow. Whether a plant is native to a particular location and how that gets determined is complex and I look forward to sharing my thoughts on the matter in a future blog post. The term "native" for the purposes of this website refers to plants that were present in Maine prior to European colonization. Some of these plants are circumboreal or hemiboreal and variants of them occur at a similar latitude to ours around the globe.
