Basics: Zones 3-9, 36-60" x 24-36", full sun, bright yellow bloom spikes in early to mid-summer, prefers medium to dry, well-drained soils on the acidic side. Tap-rooted, it is drought tolerant once established.

Common names: Blue Ridge False Lupine, Carolina False Lupine, Blue Ridge Golden-banner, Bush Pea, Aaron's Rod, Blue Ridge Buck Bean, Southern Lupine

Synonyms: Thermopsis caroliniana

Family: Fabaceae

Origin/Distribution: The native distribution is Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, and West Virginia along the Appalachian spine. It is establishing in parts of New England as a garden escapee. 

Habitat: Found in meadow, field, prairie, wood's edge and woodland openings.
