Salvia nemerosa 'May Night' - Woodland Sage
Salvia nemerosa 'May Night' - Woodland Sage
Couldn't load pickup availability
Sizes available: #1 (Trade gallon)
Basics: zones 5-9, 18-24" x 18", full sun to high, light and dappled shade, spires of numerous dark violet flowers in late spring to early summer, prefers even moisture, but is adaptable
Common names: Woodland Sage, Meadow Sage
Family: Lamiaceae
Origin/Distribution: The horticulturalist Karl Foerster introduced this cultivar in 1956. The species is native to a broad geographical range from central Europe into western Siberia and central Asia.
Habitat: open woodland, woodland edge, meadow, grassland
More: Salvias are deer resistant. Shear after first bloom to spruce up the plant and invite repeat blooming. Looks good with late season grasses in particular, because if planted amongst them, it's earlier to emerge foliage and bloom obscures the slow-to-get-going grass clumps. More information coming soon.
