Sizes available: #1 (Trade gallon), these are males
Basics: Hardy to zone 3 and above, 10-15' x 3-5', full sun, a "massive explosion" of yellow catkins in the early to mid spring, likes consistent moisture
Common names: Showtime Pussy Willow, S365
Family: Salicaceae
Origin/Distribution: This is probably a hybrid of Salix caprea and Salix cinerea developed at the University of Toronto.
Habitat: Both S. caprea and S. cinerea are found in wet ditches, disturbed sites, riparian areas, waterway edges, and the like.
More: The early blooming stems make excellent cut flowers and the late-summer-forming buds are also ornamental. This willow is tall and narrow and not only excellent for flower arranging, but makes a beautiful upright focal point in the garden. It is a STRONG grower, but is a triploid hybrid, and sterile. It is a good candidate for a large pot with a constant tray of water under it. Can be coppiced hard. A good one for privacy screening, erosion control, and as part of a buffer planting. Absolutely a must to protect from herbivory until it gets large enough to cope with browsing.
