Sizes available: #1 (Trade gallon)
Basics: zones 5-9, 12-30" x 12-24", full sun to part shade, summer blooms are a bright rich red with even darker centers, adaptable as to soil type, drought tolerant once established (although in the hottest spots will want some moisture), does not like winter wet.
Family: Rosaceae
More: A bit of a sprawler/rambler and its lax habit is good for interweaving with other plants in a sunny border, either for the front edge or a bit further in. The red flowers, although not too large, really pop and are attractive to pollinators. Deadhead to encourage more blooming. Looks good with shorter grasses and dry-land plants such as dianthus, oregano, and thymes. Prefers a bit of shade in the hot, blazing afternoon. The species, although native to northern Mexico, Arizona, and New Mexico, it is found in shadier, moister habitats in its natural range. Deer resistant. A complete entry will be coming soon.
