Common name: Early Small-flowered Saxifrage, Everlasting, Lungwort, Sweet Wison, Saxifrage, Virginia Saxifrage, Early Saxifrage
Synonym: Saxifraga virginiensis
Basics: zones 2-8, up to 12" x 4-6", part shade, fragrant small white flowers on a stalk over a little knob of slightly fleshy basal leaves in the spring, wants shallow, rocky soils with good drainage
Family: Saxifragaceae
Origin/distribution: Ontario to New Brunswick, south through New England to Georgia, west to Tennessee and Missouri and north to Minnesota, native to Maine
These were grown from seed collected in New England
Habitat: shady and dry ledge, crevice, cliff, on top of logs, amongst rocks, dry woods
More: excellent Maine native for the rock garden or a well-drained spot in a shade garden, also a good trough candidate, the emerging spring leaves are edible and can be used in salads,
