Sizes available: HPP quart

Basics: zone 3-9, 2-4' x 2', full sun, blooms begin in early summer. The flowers are daisy shaped with somewhat reflexed petals and a pronounced spiny cone. Very adaptable and prefers well-drained soils, Will grow in both lean soil and clay once established.

Family: Asteraceae

Origin/Distribution: Although you might be surprised because it is so prevalent, this plant is not native to Maine. Complete distribution coming soon.

More: If deadheaded this plant will bloom throughout the summer, but at some point, let the flowers senesce to form seeds for the birds! Attractive and low maintenance in the garden, beloved by pollinators, dark stems and seedheads look striking against the snow in winter. All parts of this plant have been used medicinally. Good cut flower both fresh and as a seed head.
