Sizes available: quart
Basics: zones 4-8, 12" x 12", part shade, bloom color variable: usually dark pink but can range through pink shades to white, blooms mid to late spring over a low mound of foliage, can be summer dormant, wants good drainage but consistent moisture
Common names: Eastern Shooting Star, Pride of Ohio, Roosterheads, Prairie Pointers
Synonyms: Primula meadia
Family: Primulaceae
Origin/Distribution: Occurs from western Pennsylvania to Wisconsin, south to Georgia, and in eastern parts of Texas and southern Kansas.
Habitat: Found on grassland with variable moisture and rocky, lightly shaded slopes.
More: This is a lovely addition to the spring garden that is fine with being somewhat over-shadowed by larger perennials later in the season. Can grow in part sun as long as it is moist enough, but will struggle in full sun. Good for a lightly shaded woodland setting or rock garden. The highly reflexed petals give a sense that the flowers are in mid-flight hence the common name.
