Basics: zones 3-9, 2-6' (tallest with most moisture) x 1-2', full sun to very light shade, large single flower is very light pink to medium purple (occasionally white), blooms on top of a tall, sturdy stem over a slightly spiny leaf rosette in late summer, medium to medium dry, but looks it's best with consistent moisture.
Common names: Field Thistle, Pasture Thistle
Family: Asteraceae
Origin/Distribution: Occurs in much of the eastern and central United States and the northeastern Canadian Provinces. Native to the southern tip of Maine.
Habitat: Likes damp fields, disturbed soils, old pastures, roadside ditches, and woodland edges
