Basics: zone 3 to 7, 24-36" x 18-24", part shade to shade but more sun is fine as long as there is consistent moisture, lovely threadleaf, maple-like leaves, panicles of tiny ivory colored flowers in mid to late summer, likes medium to wet, rich soils, somewhat clay tolerant and not picky as to pH, in more shade it is drought tolerant and grows more openly with less flowering.

Common names: Goatsbeard, Bride's Feathers

Family: Rosaceae

Origin/Distribution: the species is native to eastern and western North America as well as Europe and Asia

Habitat: damp, mountainous forests and moist woodland edges,  however, I have found this cultivar to be extremely drought tolerant once established and I have it growing at the base of mature oaks.

More: The panicle is a delicate texture to add to a bouquet. Rabbit and deer tolerant. Lovely in a shady, mixed border. This cultivar is shorter than the species and has attractive, very deeply dissected leaves. It has probably been around since the 19th C. It is a potential ground cover in the right spot.
