Sizes available: #1 (Trade gallon)
Basics: zones 4-8, 18" x 18", full sun, mid summer into fall bloom, dark purple flowers along a dark stem, medium to lean fertility soils that are well-drained. Doesn't like winter wet. Since this is a cultivar of Woodland Sage, I wonder if it can take a bit more shade than advertised.
Common names: Salvia, Woodland Sage, Balkan Clary, Blue Sage, Wild Sage
Family: Lamiaceae
Origin/Distribution: This is a cultivar the species Salvia nemerosa which is native to Central Europe and western Asia.
Habitat: open groves and woodland edge
More: I am looking forward to trying these in bouquets. This is an easy-going perennial that has long been cultivated and hybridized. 'Caradonna' has received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. This cultivar was developed by the German nursery, Zillmer, where it was discovered as a seedling of another cultivar 'Wesuwe'. It is a reliable repeat-bloomer with strong, upright stems.
