Basics: zones 3-7, at least 12" tall, some sources say taller, full sun (some sources say also part shade), purple-blue flowers with fringed petals in late summer to early fall, wet to medium wet, may prefer a lime-y soil. We will see. Lot's of conflicting info on this one and it is new to me. This is a biennial.

Family: Gentianaceae
Origin/Distribution: Occurs from southern Maine to Maryland and south to the Georgia mountains, west to Iowa and Minnesota. It is also found in the northeast half of Canada. Listed as threatened in New Hampshire and endangered in Rhode Island. Native to Maine.
Habitat: sunny, moist, calcareous meadows and stream edges. Rare in parts of its range due to habitat loss.
