Basics: up to 1' x 6", deciduous shade (sunnier in spring and shadier when dormant), yellow, bell-shaped flowers with recurved tips and mottled, sword-like leaves, blooms in early spring.

Family: Liliaceae
Origin/Distribution: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, southern Quebec and Ontario in Canada, south through the eastern United States to northern Georgia and northeast Oklahoma. Native to Maine.
Habitat: cool, moist deciduous woods, well-drained, also found in more exposed places like a lightly shaded cliff or ledge
