Basics: zones 3-7, 1-3' x 12-18", full to part sun, 5-petaled white flower, sometimes leaning toward pale yellow bloom at the tops of sturdy stems in loose clusters during the summer, likes it medium moist to dry, well-drained, sand or gravel, even clay is okay.
Common names: Tall Wood Beauty, Prairie Cinquefoil, Tall Cinquefoil, Sticky Cinquefoil
Family: Rosaceae
Origin/Distribution: Occurs in 36 states and is native to all of New England except Rhode Island according to Go Botany. The native distribution is New Brunswick, Canada all the way west to Alaska and as far south as Arizona, Indiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Maryland. Native to Maine.
Habitat: Found on rocky slopes, cliffs, and ledges, on dry prairies and fields, in open woods, and roadsides
