Basics: zones 4-7, 24-30" x 24", part sun to part shade (full sun with enough moisture), pretty, star-shaped flowers with pinkish-purple bracts and white to purple flowers throughout the summer (if deadheaded), although native to wetlands and appreciative of consistent moisture this plant is pretty adaptable once established. Likes a rich soil. May prefer calcareous soils.

Origin/Distribution: The species is native to central and eastern Europe: Pyrenees, Carpathians, Balkans, and parts of the Caucasus. Present in British Isles since the 16th Century
Habitat: open wetland settings such as meadows and fields, damp forest clearings, open stream edges
More: Attractive to various pollinators including bees, flies, and beetles. Great as a cut flower fresh or dried. Harvest when the upper bloom is fully open. Masterwort has a long history of medicinal use. May self-sow if happy.
